The Kress Screening: Come join the SAVA Center for Roll Red Roll movie screening starting at 6:00pm at The Kress in Greeley (817 8th Ave, Greeley, CO 80631).

Roll Red Roll is a true-crime thriller and impact campaign that goes behind the headlines of the notorious Steubenville, Ohio rape case to uncover the deep-seated and social media-fueled “boys will be boys” culture at the root of high school sexual assault in America. The film unflinchingly asks, why didn’t anyone stop it? The impact campaign engages communities around the nation to answer this question for themselves, creating opportunities, tools and pathways for men and boys to challenge ingrained thinking about masculinity and explore their leadership potential in the fight against gender-based violence.

Roll Red Roll shifts the lens and burden from the victim to the perpetrators, bystanders, witnesses, and communities to understand and address the problem. By examining harmful notions of masculinity, Roll Red Roll is shining a light on “rape culture”— a culture that allows sexual assault to be normalized and dismissed. At the heart of this film and campaign, we are opening up a national dialogue that engages men and boys including fathers, coaches, and teens, to get involved in the work to prevent violence and shift culture.

As both an educational tool and a catalyst for social and behavioral change, Roll Red Roll is uniquely poised to incite critical conversations with students, thought leaders and grassroots activists working to eliminate gender violence. Director Nancy Schwartzman, a globally recognized human rights activist, has been using film and technology to transform the culture around gender-based violence for over 10 years. Never have we been so primed for this conversation.

Quiz for a Cause/Geeks Who Drink: Quiz For a Cause is Geeks Who Drink’s standing offer to nonprofits to use our quiz as a tool for fundraising and community outreach. In addition to raising funds, nonprofits will have the opportunity to distribute literature and educate people about their mission, both at the event itself and through Geeks Who Drink’s website, email list and social media network. A quick explanation on how a pub quiz actually raises funds. It’s simple: quiz participants pay an entry fee of $5 per person. One entry fee per team goes into a cash purse for the winners; the rest goes to the cause at hand.

The Fort Collins Quiz for a Cause will take place on Wednesday, April 8th at 6:00pm at the Trailhead Tavern (148 W Mountain Ave, Fort Collins, CO 80524) and in Greeley on Thursday, April 23th at 8:00pm at The Tavern at St. Michael’s Square (2918 67th Ave, Greeley, CO 80634). Denim Day:  For the past 20 years, Peace Over Violence has run its Denim Day campaign on a Wednesday in April in honor of Sexual Assault Awareness Month. The campaign began after a ruling by the Italian Supreme Court where a rape conviction was overturned because the justices felt that since the victim was wearing tight jeans she must have helped the person who raped her remove her jeans, thereby implying consent. The following day, the women in the Italian Parliament came to work wearing jeans in solidarity with the victim. Peace Over Violence developed the Denim Day campaign in response to this case and the activism surrounding it. Since then, wearing jeans on Denim Day has become a symbol of protest against erroneous and destructive attitudes about sexual harassment, abuse, assault and rape. In this sexual violence prevention and education campaign we ask community members, elected officials, businesses and students to make a social statement with their fashion statement by wearing jeans on this day as a visible means of protest against the misconceptions that surround sexual violence.
