Speak Up!

Speak Up! groups began in 2007 to provide a place for young women and men to explore personal identity, relationships, and reducing sexual violence. Speak Up! is offered to 8th grade students in middle schools in Poudre School District in Fort Collins and Thompson School District in Loveland.  Sessions incorporate discussions, art projects, writing activities, movie clips, and experiential games. All 8th students at participating schools observe a short presentation about reducing gender violence and the Speak Up! program at the beginning of the school year. Students voluntarily select to join the group with parent permission and participate in gender-specific weekly sessions for the duration of the year.  Speak Up! participants have the opportunity to attend an experiential learning field trip and community celebration in the spring.  Contact our Prevention Education Manager for more information.
